Playground Quickie | Werkit Out Wednesday

You guys hear me say it all the time. You don't need fancy equipment to make a workout happen.

Shit, you don't even need a sitter!

(but it would be nice i'mma right?!)

It warp speed ... I kid. But seriously, here's a 20 minute workout in a few seconds.

I ran to the nearby park with my two youngest kiddos and did this as one napped in her stroller and the other played.

15 standing pull-ups using playground equipement

20 step-ups (10 each leg) using playground stairs (or bench)

10 elevated push-ups using bench

25 v-ups using bench

20 bicycle crunches

Repeat 3 times

Get out there and Werkit Out Peeps!!!

As always, I am not a trained exercise coach. I am not a doctor. I assume no liability to any injuries you may endure. You should seek medical advice if you are planning on starting a new exercise regiment. I'm just here to show you there are options to get in a workout while being a busy mom.

Involve the Kids | ‘Werkit Out Wednesday

I know, I know, I haven't been posting my workouts on here for you guys. I've been sucking at that lately. But never fear -- I have been working out and just wanted to give you guys some words of encouragement.

Plus, one tip.

I don't want to workout everyday. And so I don't.

Sometimes I feel bad about it. Sometimes I'm like, "That was a good choice."

The kids are cranky. I'm tired. The television is very welcoming. The phone's glow is intriguing.

I mean there are numerous excuses I can tell you why I didn't workout.

The kicker though? What am I reflecting upon my children by making up these excuses .... and mostly because I use them as the excuse the majority of the time.

I'm not being the best role model I can be. And I mean, I can have rough days. Sick Days. Mental Days. I can, but one turns into two turns into a week turns into a 3 month cookie binge.

This is MY personal experience. You know you best. But for me - excuses get the best of me. (turning  me in the worst of me)

Here's the most important part of this post though, you don't have to blame the kids make excuses.

You can be a great role model AND get your workout on!

How?

GET YOUR KIDS INVOLVED!

What are you saying Shari?!

I know, it sounds counterproductive. I know my kiddos drive me nuts when I'm trying to workout. They magically want every snack in the house that they CAN'T reach. They need their butt wiped. They want my to read to them. I have become their personal jungle gym. I mean, I could go on and on.

But the number one reason why moms don't work out (in my non-statistically/non-fact checking brain logic) is that they say they have no time because the kids take up all their free time.

Well, get them involved! I mean it!

You guys know already, that I push mine in the stroller all the time. But sometimes they just wanna workout with you and that's okay! You may not be doing as heavy a lift. Or as many rounds/reps you wanted - but you're moving. You're bonding.

That's what a postpartum (ANY) workout is all about!

I know my middle boy always wants to work out (to some extent) with me and I know my little girl is always curious as to why mommy is all sweaty! ;) My eldest runs 5ks with me and even though he complains 80% of the way, he loves crossing that finish line and earning that medal.

1st place in his age group during the El Paso/Mexico International Run!

You're teaching them the importance of self-love and perseverance. You're teaching them to take care of their bodies and to be strong both physically and mentally. You are being the role model they deserve and need.

So get them involved!

Playground Band Workout | 'Werkit' Out Wednesday

I've been lazy ... like, not moving lazy, just lazy to DRIVE to my workout. LOL

So I decided to do some band training ... and this is what I did while the littlest ran around the playground.

It was about 20 min workout with interruptions from my "Power Ranger" ... I did each exercise three times.

Chest Press - using a tree

Overhead Extension - using a tree

Tricep Press - using a tree

Fitted Leg Extension (quad) - using bench

Standing Side Leg Extension - using bench

I have no clue if I used the proper terms for these things, but with my 3 mile walk, I got a good workout in! And wow, those shorts are not doing a THING for my body confidence! haha! (FYI - I'm also just about 6 months pregnant!)

Disclaimer:  I am not a doctor or health coach or any one qualified to tell you what you can and can't do with your body. You are the judge of how each exercise feels. If it hurts, don't do it. If you get hurt  doing an exercise I suggest, it's ultimately your decision to try the workout. I just offer suggestions to stay moving.

Playground Workout | 'Werk it Out' Wednesday

New Year, New You bullshit right?

2017 has come in like a storm and it's already the 4th day.

Don't get me wrong y'all ... I fully support any and every one who wants to get up off their asses to move. Whether it's walking around the block, doing 5 pushups, or joining a gym.

I love that.

Because I was there once.

I was just had my first child. I thought the weight would magically melt away because, shit, I was only 23 years old! My metabolism was still hight and I could eat a tub of cookie dough and not gain a pound.

Well ... I was wrong.

The weight didn't magically go away. And I was the heaviest I had been in a like .... ever. I'm not going to put down a number because my "heavy" isn't someone else's "heavy." I know there are heavier people out there, but for my build and my esteem. I was too heavy.

I had to get up off my ass and start back at it. I had to run. I had to lift weights. And I had to learn not to eat the entire tub of cookie dough.

So guys, I get it. We all start some where. What I want you guys to realize is that, just because it's a new year doesn't mean its a NEW you.

You have to work hard. You have to stay motivated and you have to lean on other for support.

Trust me, my motivation comes and goes. Sometimes I wanna run the length of the country and sometimes I just wanna pull the covers up and go to sleep. BUT -- I have motivators that come in all different ways.

1 - my sons. They look up to me. I have to stay healthy for them. I want to be here when they give me my grandchildren. Hell, I wanna be here for my grandchildren's children!

2 - I have health buddies who keep me accountable. They ensure I get to workouts. Ask how I am and are just there for me if my motivation just isn't.

3 - myself. I wanna be that hot mom -- with a few dimples of skin, mom-sag boobs and just a few wrinkles. I want to feel good about myself. I want to say that I look this way because I work hard for it ... well, I work for it... lol sometimes I think I should've pushed harder and didn't. And sometimes I just want that tub of cookie dough!

4 - my workout app. Yeah. LOL. That thing will make you feel like shit when it dings "congratulations! you've met your goal of 1 hour of sitting!" Yeah... I like seeing, "You maxed out on miles this week!" Not "Hey lazy-ass ... congrats ... you wasted another day staring at Facebook dreaming of those healthy, buff women who only eat Kale."

5 - my sanity. I've noticed that when I skip workouts - or just the interaction with other adults - my stress level is higher, I have a shorter temper, and I just plain feel like shit.

6 - Instagram challenges. Not only do I get to figure out a new and creative way to take a "proof" picture, it also keeps me accountable because I don't want my challengers to doubt my commitment and I want that damn prize! ;)

Guys, find your motivation. Take 2017 by the cajones and get healthy. But remember, you'll still be you. The new you will still be the same ol' person who loves cookie dough; who wants to sleep in; who wants extra butter on the popcorn; who really doesn't wanna go to the gym; and who still wants to be better.

You are awesome.

You will succeed.

And you can become a better you.

But you'll always be Y.O.U.

Let's start off the new year with these moves for a playground work out! I know you're going as crazy as I am with these buggers home during winter vacation. Don't worry guys, one 4 more days and school starts! ;)

Have fun and good luck!

(see below for work out!)

How the workout works:

Let the kids run free at the playground while you work on your HIIT. I only have three exercises today, so do them for however long you can do it. We jog to and from the park so that is our cardio, you can also throw in jumping jacks or burpees to add cardio to your HIIT!

Start with a timer of 40 seconds on and 20 seconds rest. Do all three exercises and then repeat for however long you can go.

Jump ups (Box jumps) -- be safe! Start low and work your way up! If jumping up on a ledge or  bench or playground step scares you, just step up onto them working your way up to a jump.

Step up with leg lift (alternate legs) -- using bench, step of playground, ledge, step up and lift leg behind you to tighten your rear-end. Alternate legs each time.

Elevated pushups using bench -- Using a table, ledge, bench, do close handed pushups keeping your elbows tucked into your sides. This works your triceps - no more "bat wings" for you!

Playground Workout | 'Werkit' out Wednesday

Today's 'Werkit' Out Wednesday is all about multi-tasking.

Because

FACE IT

That's what us moms do when we need to get shit done.

So next time you head to the playground, don't just sit on your butt playing Candy Crush.

What?

Don't look at me like that. I know you do it.

Oh, my bad, your browsing Facebook or Pinterest trying to figure out how to be a better momma.

Well STOP!

You are the best momma out there and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Dress in workout clothes, and 'werkit' while your children play!

This is the best, you can keep an eye out on your children, work out, and kick out that frustration all at the same time. And you didn't "waste" an hour at the playground.

This is where I put my disclaimer .... yada yada yada. I'm not a doctor. I'm not a trainer. Make sure your kids are safe. blah blah blah. You know the drill. You know your body. If it hurts, stop. If your kids cries, help him. If it's windy, too hot, lightening ... I mean, you're adult. Do what you gotta do.

Werkit LADIES!!!
